This website is the result of a partnership between the YWCA NSW Communities for Children Programme and the Family Referral Service.

The YWCA NSW is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1880 and works on the frontline for improving gender equality and eliminating violence against women. YWCA NSW (a member association of YWCA Australia) has a footprint which extends from the Northern Rivers to Nowra on the South Coast. Across four regions, through the delivery of early intervention and support programs, we work to empower women, children, young people and their families, to find their possible. The organisation raises funds through profit-for-purpose businesses, donations, and government grants to provide a range of programs and services. These programs and services deliver early childhood prevention and intervention, domestic violence support, women’s refuges, homeless support, mentoring for young women, financial literacy, and life skills.

Key among YWCA NSW program in the Northern Rivers is Communities for Children (CfC) .The CfC Programme is a Commonwealth Department of Social Services initiative. As part of the initiative the YWCA partners with a range of local community organisations to deliver a variety of programs aimed at improving the development, wellbeing and safety of children and families. The Communities for Children vision is to see happy and healthy families supported in a community that is inclusive, empowered and child aware. Its mission is to support the development of a coordinated, integrated and well-trained service sector and to facilitate a whole-of-community approach to strengthening and empowering children and families.

The Family Referral Service (FRS) brings together families, support services and community resources to help promote the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and families. it aims to connect families who need a helping hand to the support services and community resources which can assist them. FRS work with all services to find out what best supports young people and families and their children, and what we can do to improve community resources. FRS helps families with a range of issues including domestic violence experiences, housing or accommodation access, financial assistance, counselling and mediation, parenting struggles, mental health concerns, finding culturally appropriate support.
